i Rubber Yoga mats: Practical issues

As Latex (rubber) yoga mats are becoming increasingly poplular we though it was time to look beyond the hype and try to provide a more balanced view of this new buying trend.

About Latex (rubber) Yoga mats

The main point, say the manufacturers is that they contain no PVC.

Since around the 1970's yoga mats have been made with this now quite familar Sticky vinyl material which was originally developed from carpet underlay

The trouble with all manufacturers is that they are not always as transparent in their production methods as consumers might demand, especially when it comes to additives and also working conditions for employees.

Specifically with latex mats is that they are quite heavy and do not store quite so well and are generally more expensive than their synthetic counterparts. They can decay relatively quickly in sunlight and are also less tolerant to cosmetics and skin oils

Why are Latex Yoga mats considered more environmental?

They are made from a natural substance that will decay after disposal - making them eco-friendly.
